Creating a Safe Environment for Your Warehouse Team

Every day it seems like there’s a new variant on the rise. Most recently, the CDC said that the Omicron COVID-19 variant is now the most dominant strain in the United States, accounting for over 73% of new coronavirus cases. For those of you who are new here, our team at Spectra360 connects job seekers to our clients in the logistics industry. With that said, our inbox is full of potential job seekers asking the same question, “What coronavirus precautions are you taking?” As a hiring manager, you’re probably used to hearing this question too. Now more than ever, warehouse workers are concerned about their health and safety, mainly because they don’t want to harm their loved ones. This blog discusses three things you can do to make your warehouse staff feel and be safe.

Provide PPE

Depending on the warehouse you have, it would be wise to supply personal protective equipment for your staff, i.e., steel toe boots or even a hard hat. With the ongoing pandemic, more PPE to consider providing is masks, gloves, and goggles to prevent the spread of diseases.

Establish Safety Protocols

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports thousands of injuries, illnesses, and deaths in the warehousing industry annually, many caused by workplace accidents such as falls, hazardous materials, and equipment malfunction. Establishing safety procedures for new hires early on is essential to prevent workplace accidents. Doing so will make practicing safety a habit in their daily routine. If you want your warehouse team to prioritize safety, it must start from the top down. When leadership shows how much they value safety, it’s more likely that the rest of the team will follow.

Conduct Safety Training

A Salesforce study showed that 97% of employees and leaders blame lack of alignment within teams for any failures and issues. To help your staff get on the same page, regular safety training could be your solution. Some examples of when you should have training sessions are when you get new equipment or leadership has a new COVID-19 prevention guideline to cover. Whatever the reason you choose to hold a training, know that it will go a long way to helping promote safety in your warehouse.

The safety and health of your staff should remain a priority. By using one or more of these three tips, you can show them that you care. If you would like to meet with a Spectra360 hiring expert about how we can further assist you, schedule your free consultation today.
