How to Land Your Dream Warehouse Job

In 2021, a report shared that warehouse jobs were in high demand, which could be due to the rise in e-commerce during the height of the pandemic. As many states return to work and the unemployment insurance benefits go back to normal, hiring managers in the warehouse sector are hoping to see an increase in the number of resumes they’re receiving.

If you’re looking to get back into the workforce, it is a great time to start a career in the light industrial industry. Getting a warehouse job could be a great start to a long and successful career for yourself. There are so many options, from manufacturing to production and transportation, offered within a warehouse, which leads to plenty of room for growth. As a warehouse associate, you could earn the experience needed to step up to a management role. If you’re interested in learning more about how to land your dream warehouse job, keep reading!

UPDATE YOUR RESUME TO THE WAREHOUSE JOB OPENING

Hiring managers are actively looking for candidates to fill gaps in their warehouse teams, which means they’re looking at an eye-sore number of daily applications! It is crucial to stand out from other applicants by ensuring your resume is up-to-date with your latest jobs, certifications, and references. If you want to make sure you stand out, include a cover letter! This will show your recruiter how serious you are about the warehouse job.

Pro Tip: Google Docs offers several different templates you can use to create and update a resume! All you need is a Gmail account. If you don’t want to go through the trouble of making an entirely new email, search on the web “Free Resume Templates,” and you’ll find something to plug your information into easily.

BE READY FOR AN INITIAL PHONE SCREENING INTERVIEW

As previously mentioned, recruiters are sorting through an ungodly amount of resumes, so that is why they conduct phone screens before scheduling an in-person interview. The recruiter will ask you a few questions about your background and experience, and it should be no longer than 30 minutes.

The most important part about these phone screens is answering your phone! As easy as it sounds, many applicants do not get past this part of the interview process because they think the recruiter’s phone number may be spam. The purpose of a phone screen is to confirm whether or not you have the required experience for the position and if you would be a good culture fit for the team you’d be joining. It would be wise to have some questions in mind for the end of the interview about the company, role, and hiring process!

Phone Screening Question Examples

  1. Why do you want this job?
  2. Why do you think you’d be a good fit for the job?
  3. How would your manager/co-workers/ friends describe you?
  4. What motivates you in life?
  5. What compensation are you looking for?

STAY IN CONTACT WITH YOUR RECRUITER

If you have interests in career advancement, let your recruiter know that. If you are looking for a seasonal position, let them know that too. It is part of their role as a recruiter to make sure the applicant is a good fit for their client and vice versa. To help land the job, make sure you’re checking in with the recruiter regularly. Confirm with your recruiter that there is nothing else they may need from you, i.e., references, certifications, etc.

If you’re looking to start a career in the logistics industry, the tips mentioned above will help you stand out amongst the pool of applicants! Being a warehouse team member could be the job that opens doors to the career of your dreams… You won’t know till you take the first step and apply! At Spectra360, our recruiters are ready to help you land the job, but we can’t do it without your help.
