Congratulations! Your recruiter just contacted you, and you’ve been told that you got the job. Now what? If you have years of experience under your belt working in a warehouse, then chances are you’ll know a lot of these tips, and it will be more like a refresher for you, but if you’re a beginner, you’re in the right place. At Spectra360, we understand that you may feel anxious or maybe even a bit overwhelmed about your first day at your new job, and that’s okay. That is why we gathered our top 3 tips for a beginner warehouse worker!

Tip 1: Be Yourself

Don’t overthink it! You nailed your interview, and there’s a reason why you’ve been selected to join this warehouse team. If you feel nervous on your first day, remind yourself that you wouldn’t have gotten the job if your hiring manager didn’t believe in you! Be the best version of yourself, and try your best to remember to breathe. On your first day, you’ll most likely be shadowing a fellow warehouse associate or doing some training!

Tip 2: Ask Questions

Your coworkers and managers will be ready to help you, especially on your first few days, so don’t be nervous to ask even the most straightforward questions like where’s the bathroom or what do you wish you knew on your first day at [name of company]? This will help you build relationships with your team and make your first week less stressful. Get to know your surroundings and think of questions you would need answers to during your day-to-day tasks.

Tip 3: Wear the Right Shoes

As a newbie to warehouse work, you’ll have to get used to being on your feet for long periods. Ask your hiring manager in advance about what types of shoes they recommend would be wise! Another thing to consider about your footwear is some extra support such as inserts. The added layer of comfort could do you wonders while being on your feet for eight-plus hours. Safety is a factor that you’ll want to think about depending on the type of warehouse work you’ll be doing, so Nike tennis shoes may not be the call on this one.

In summary, don’t overthink your new role because the hiring manager selected you for a reason! 10/10; that reason is that you showed potential and the willingness to learn. Keep that same mindset during your first couple of weeks to keep you motivated to be the best version of yourself.
